Bubba the Beautiful

Bubba has the most luscious coat of any cat at CROW. It is shiny and thick and softer than the air around it. Pictures can't even begin to capture the shine, much less its other qualities.

Photobucket

PhotobucketIn the above picture, it may look like his tail is hiding behind the couch, but it isn't. This is all there is!

He had an old irreparable fracture as a feral kitten and this was all that could be saved.

And believe it or not, formerly feral Bubba is becoming a lap cat. His purrs rattle the room as he soaks up as much petting as he can get, and at the peak of his ecstasy he gets the barest sheen of drool droplets on his handsome chin. Just enough to show his appreciation, but not enough to be gross.

Don't you want a one-eyed Bubba? He's just over a year old, healthy, neutered, vaccinated, and ready for his forever home.

Bubba, the Survivor

Bubba's been around the block. Initially a feral kitten, he tamed easily in a loving foster home. This is him then.

Bubba

Somehow he ended up with a painful broken tail and ended up back in foster care to recover from having it amputated. He has a couple inches of very expressive tail nub left.

A few months later, he developed an eye ulcer that didn't heal, despite weeks of veterinary treatment. This was the subsequent result:

Yes, he had his eye removed.

Now Bubba is a healthy adult cat with one eye and no tail and an absolutely luxurious coat. He's a bit shy at first, but warms up with one on one time and gets just the tiniest droplets of happy drool when his purr engine really gets going.

These pictures really don't do him justice, but we'll add more when we can.

Bubba is full grown, neutered, and would do best in a home without a lot of other animals. He is currently doing fine in a foster home with kids, dogs, and cats, but we feel he would thrive even more someplace a bit quieter with more one-on-one time. He needs to be an indoor-only cat, due to his limited vision.

Sorry!

Wow, almost a whole week without posting! Don't worry, everything is fine here at C.R.O.W. Bubba is more affectionate than ever and back up for adoption, Lola is healing beautifully, and the handful of sick kittens are still slogging their way though this upper respiratory infection, but will be fine soon.

We got a call about a feral cat covered in porcupine quills and are working on trapping him and getting him to the vet, where we'll get the quills removed and get him neutered. Keep your fingers crossed that he's not already trap-savvy!

Hope everyone's holidays were lovely and we wish you all the best in the New Year.

Live Action CROW

Bubba, Jacob (on top), Mama Mia (sleeping on side), Mutter (in the middle), Twiggy (in the front), and Mog (who falls off at the end).

CROW cats are some of the happiest rescue cats on the planet, I think. Not that I'm biased or anything.

Everyone in this video is available for adoption.

Comprehensive C.R.O.W.

All right, it's hard to keep up with the daily posting when the C.R.O.W. blogger is on the road. A blizzard has sidetracked the intent to return to routine, but hopefully we haven't lost you all for good.

The C.R.O.W. Rescue kitties are doing pretty well. Lucas is desperately missing his foster family (he didn't get to join TLC-needin'Rudy on the road trip), but is getting good care from the cat-sitter, and Twiggy, Mog, Mutter, Maya, Alice, and Jacob are following his lead. It's always fun when the smallest becomes the leader. Mama Mia is gorgeous and lovable and ready for any home we could throw at her, as are all the aforementioned kittens. Lola and Bubba have had some setbacks and are no longer available for adoption at this point, but they are safe and loved and will be back up for adoption soon.

C.R.O.W. Outreach programs are growing slowly, but are moving in the right direction. We need some volunteers to help us transport and insulate some old doghouses to provide shelter for some of our feral colonies this winter, and we're talking with Alpha Humane League about working together to do educational animal welfare presentations in the schools. We've had several informational articles published in the newspaper, and got lots of phone calls in reply, and are looking into offering some workshops over the winter. In addition, we are working on strengthening our connections with other animal welfare organizations in the area and with the community at large. And Whitney, C.R.O.W. founder and president, attempts to blog regularly. Photobucket

C.R.O.W. Welfare is what we're all about. In addition to all of the above, we have contacts for TNR efforts and hope to have some good momentum going in that department by spring. We've stocked up on vaccinations for all the cats, and routinely refer people to spay/neuter programs sponsored by other organizations in the valley. We're always brainstorming new ways to reach out and help and welcome your input. Also, thanks to those who have donated food, money, doghouses, and time to C.R.O.W. We couldn't do it without you.

Our board has been meeting monthly, and VP Christie and Secretary Shay (Whitney's best friends and fellow board members) deserve a shout-out for their brainstorming and behind-the-scenes work at C.R.O.W. Thanks, guys! We have our business bank account (and are working through a Paypal snafu), have started on the non-profit application paperwork, and are working on our non-blog website.

Can you believe we're only 2 months old? Photobucket

Yoda needs help

Late in the evening on October 12, the son of CROW's secretary heard frantic mewing outside their country home. (The cats know where to go for help, don't they?) Thus, Yoda* came into our lives.

Photobucket

This picture was taken that night. This poor little 10-week-old boy was emaciated and starving, blinded, horribly sick, and cold. Some TLC unearthed his eyes and nose, and he seemed immediately grateful for the warmth and food provided. The vet diagnosed him with malnutrition, frostbite (on his ears), an upper respiratory infection, and--worst of all--a ruptured eye.

The vet recommended we wait 2 weeks from his initial appointment so we could clear up his upper respiratory infection and get some weight on him before he undergoes surgery. In spite of the extreme pain he must be in, Yoda is mellow and playful, curious and affectionate, and just an incredibly cool little cat. His good eye is a beautiful golden color (much like Bubba's), his frost-damaged ears tip back just slightly in the most charming way, and he is putting on weight. Ideally, he will have his bad eye removed on Monday.

Unfortunately, recent large vet bills for Henry and Baa (major dental problems) have nearly wiped out our funds, and while we have a fundraiser planned for next month, Yoda needs his eye out before his pain will stop. We know times are hard for a lot of people, but if anyone can spare even a few cents, we can get closer to helping Yoda begin a pain-free life. Please, if you are able, paypal a donation of any size to CrowCatRescue@animail.net, mail to the link on the right, or pay the vet directly (under CROW's account):

Alpine Veterinary Hospital

Monte Vista, CO 81144

Please send all the love and good energy you can spare to Yoda and the other CROW Cats. We'll keep you posted! Thank you!
